LICHA African Heritage Relief Organization is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization established in 1993 for two reasons: (1) to empower women and children in Nyanza Province of Kenya to have better lives through income generating projects and education. (2) To assist refugee children to settle in Pierce and King Counties and succeed in their education and employment.

LICHA is located in Nyahera in Kisumu County. Nyahera is located by mountains overlooking Lake Victoria.

1)  Sponsored children to finish high schools in Kenya, most of them girls.

2)  Provided scholarships for two students to complete their degree at the United States International University.

3) Assisted to build two churches at Nyahera, Kisumu. In Kenya, churches serve as the hub of community organization and activity. In order to stimulate more social cohesiveness. LICHA initiated and completed the building of two churches.

4) Through a grant from Pierce County Human Services, several refugee students benefited from Chemical Dependency prevention and mental health intervention programs. Out of 30 students who participated in the program, 80% completed high school and 60% graduated from college.

5) Developed and expanded the goat project to supply sufficient goats for more poor families.

6) Provided seed money for Table banking and worked with women, introducing them to Kenya Women Trust and other entities supporting women’s activities.

7) Sewing and distributing reusable feminine sanitary pads, at no cost, to economically challenged Kenyan women and girls.
